Book Review: The Wicked Will Rise

The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige (Dorothy Must Die #2)

Hardcover Edition-295 Pages

Genre- Fantasy, Young Adult, Magic, Witches, Paranormal

5/5 Lily Pads

Would I Recommend It? Yes!

No Spoilers!

Hey there, I'm back with a review. Today I am reviewing "The Wicked Will Rise". Before I start my review, yes, I know about the controversy with the author and Full Fathom Five. I did my research and I don't approve of FFF, but I'm not gonna let it stop me from reading this amazing series. I loved the first book, "Dorothy Must Die" so I really wanted to read this one. This book was not a disappointment. Recently, I've been having trouble reading second books in a series, because I just can't get into them. This book wasn't like that at all. It was amazing and l loved it!

I'm not going to describe the plot because I don't wanna spoil the book for people that haven't read it yet. I like to make my reviews spoiler-free so anyone can read it. So let's just skip to my opinion.

Like I said before, I loved this book! It was such a great sequel and I wasn't disappointed.

I love Danielle's writing style. I love first person and her style is just so simple and easy to read. I read this book pretty quickly.

The pacing was so perfect. I was never bored, the whole book was interesting even though there's not much action. Well, there is action just not as much as the first book. However, that doesn't bother me because I'm not a big fan of action in books which is funny because Fantasy is one of my favorite genres. I like action, I just don't need it in books to make me happy. I could care less if a book didn't have action. Anyway, the pacing was great and I loved getting more into the world and the characters. That was the main focus of this book.

I love the characters in this series. Our main protagonist, Amy is so awesome! She's so strong and kick butt. She has a heart of gold and doesn't like doing bad things to people. She's a good person and that's why I love her. I love Nox too, he's a good guy even though we don't know too much about him. Dorothy is so evil, I love reading chapters with her in it. I love all the side characters too, like Ozma.

So basically, I loved everything about this book. There was nothing wrong with it. I have the third book "Yellow Brick War" and can't wait to read it. I'm mad that I have to wait a whole year for the fourth book, but oh well. So yeah, that's my review. This book was awesome and it's definitely worth a buy (I don't support FFF, but I'm buying the books because I love them and I wanna support the author). You should still buy the books if you wanna read them. Don't worry about  the controversy, your missing out on a great series. If your hesitant about reading this series, don't be. Go out and read the first book. I promise it's so good and I'm sure you'll love it. If you loved the first book and your not sure about reading this one, don't listen to the bad reviews. Definitely give this one a try, you won't regret it. Just don't go into it with high expectations, I'm sure you'll love this one too. Stay tuned for a review for the third book. I actually didn't do a review for the first book on this blog. But since I'm reading the rest of the series, you can assume that I loved the first book. Anyway, that's my review. Thank you so much for reading, I love you all. Have a great day, God Bless all of you and happy reading! :)

Book Review: The Winner's Crime

The Winner's Crime by Marie Rutkoski (Winner's Trilogy #2)

Hardcover Edition-402 Pages

Genre- Fantasy, Young Adult, Romance

4/5 Lily Pads

Would I Recommend It? Yes

No Spoilers!

Hey there I'm back with a review. Today I am reviewing "The Winner's Crime". This is the second book in the "Winner's Trilogy". First of all, I really enjoyed the first book "The Winner's Curse". I had mixed feelings about this book. Read on to find out why.

I'm not going to explain the plot because this review is spoiler-free and I don't wanna spoil it for anyone that hasn't read the first book yet.

My Opinion

What can I say about this book. I still don't even know how I feel about it. It wasn't bad, but I didn't love it.

First let's talk about the writing style.
I really like her writing style, but I found the third person writing style to be really boring, which is weird because I usually love third person. This book had a lot of tell and not enough show for me which is why there's not much action.

I still love the world Marie created. I still think this is the most unique Fantasy series I've ever read. It really stands out in the YA genre, it's just so different in a good way. I can't really explain it. If you read this series, you'll understand it. This book was very political, it all about  both countries fighting against each other. Maybe the world building was a little too much for me. I love Fantasy books but I'm not a big fan of world building which is why I hate Dystopian books. I'm sort of in the minority though.

The characters actually didn't bother me that much. The miscommunication got on my nerves a little, but I still liked the characters. I still like Kestrel but I think this book got me to like Arin more.

The last thing I want to talk about is the pacing. This was my biggest issue with this book. Now I usually don't mind slow paced books but it annoyed me this time. The first half of the book was really good, it kept my attention. The second half was really boring. I have no idea why, I just got bored. I ended up skimming the last 40 pages because I couldn't get into it. I don't even know what happened at the end of the book. I've read reviews and everyone said the ending broke their heart. I didn't think the ending was that big of a deal. I mean, it was sad but it didn't really affect me that much. I just wanted the book to be over. So yeah, that's why I gave this book 4 Lily Pads, because the last half was hard to get into. I'm in the minority though. I'm sure everyone else loved the second half. This book was pretty long. It's about 400 pages but it was really slow. I usually don't care if a book doesn't have action in it, but there was no action at all. However, I didn't hate this book. I actually liked it and I still like this series.

So yeah, that's my review. Even though I didn't love this book I'm still going to read the last book "The Winner's Kiss" because I already pre-ordered it and I wanna see how the trilogy ends. If you loved the first book I would still recommend this book. If you haven't read this series yet, go read the first book. It's so good and it's perfect if you wanna read a unique story. That's my review. Stay tuned for a review for "The Winner's Kiss". It comes out next week so I will probably read it soon. Thanks so much for reading. I'm not sure if this book is worth a buy. I actually got it as a Christmas present from my sister. If your library has it, borrow it, if they don't have it then I think it's worth the money. Thanks again for reading, bye :)

Review Mashup: The Iron Knight and The Iron Legends

The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa (Iron Fey #4)

Paperback Edition-400 Pages

Genre- Fantasy, Fairies, Young Adult

5/5 Lily Pads

Would I Recommend It? Of course!

Spoilers!!

Hey there I'm back with two reviews. The first book I am reviewing is "The Iron Knight". This is the last book in the "Iron Fey" series and I am so sad it's over because it's my new favorite series. This book is in Ash's POV and I loved it because I love Ash. He's one of my book boyfriend's. Let's get on with the review.

I'm not going to put the plot description because I don't want to spoil the whole series for those that haven't read it yet.

Of course I loved this book you guys! This series is so amazing and I loved every book. The characters are so well developed, I love all of them. Since this book is about Ash's story, Meghan wasn't in it much and I really missed her. This book made me love Ash even more because he sacrificed his whole life for Meghan. I love him because he is such a good guy and he's so sweet. I want a guy like Ash. I loved that Puck was in this book too. I love Puck, he's such an awesome character and he always makes me laugh. I felt bad for him because of what he lost but it was so nice of him to go on the journey with Ash. He's a true, loyal friend and I want a friend like him. There were some new characters introduced like Ariella, who is Ash's old love. I loved her because she was so nice and she gave up her love for Ash so he could be happy. I loved Wolf too. Basically I loved every character in this book.

The pacing was absolutely perfect, it kept me interested the whole time.
This book had some really great moments. I loved the ending, it was a great conclusion but I wish she wrote another book about Ash and Meghan. I need more of them, they are one of my OTP's.

Overall, this book was so amazing and I'm so sad that the series is over. I obviously gave this book 5/5 Lily Pads. I will be reading the "Call of the Forgotten" series soon so I can't wait to be back in this amazing world. If you loved all the other books, you have to read this one, especially if you love Ash, like I do :) That was my review, thanks so much for reading.

The Iron Legends by Julie Kagawa (Iron fey #1.5, 3.5, 4.5)

Paperback Edition-304 Pages

Genre- Fantasy, Fairies, Young Adult

5/5 Lily Pads

Would I Recommend It? If your a huge fan of this series like I am, I really recommend it!

Contains Spoilers!!

Now I am reviewing "The Iron Legends". This book is basically a bind up of all the novellas in this series. It also has a guide to the NeverNever and it also has descriptions for each character. The three novellas were originally published as ebooks but then they made this physical bind up. I think the novellas are around $2.99 as ebooks. If you wanna read them, I recommend buying the physical if you want a gorgeous book for your shelf. I own all the books in physical copy so I wanted to buy the bind up for my shelf. Anyway, let's get on with the review.

First I'm going to review the first novella, "Winter's Passage".
This novella takes place right after book one "The Iron King". Its about Meghan and Ash's journey together. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but that's the main plot for it. I really enjoyed it. I loved seeing them together because I love them as a couple. I really recommend reading this one before reading book two because it make more sense and your not left out with what happens right after the first one. So I really recommend it and I obviously gave it 5 Lily Pads.

The next novella is "Summer's Crossing". This novella takes place after the third book" The Iron Queen". It is in Puck's POV. It's basically Puck's thought's after book three. I really enjoyed this one but it was so short! After I finished it I was so shocked it was over and I wanted more. I recommend reading this one before book four because it explains what Puck and Ash do in "The Iron Knight". I loved it and I loved reading in Puck's POV. It was awesome and I obviously gave it 5 Lily Pads.

The third and last novella is "The Iron's Prophecy". This one takes place after the final book "The Iron Knight". It is basically about Ash and Meghan's life after the fourth book. It shows you a little bit of their marriage and their relationship. It also gives you some important information for the next series. I really recommend this one and I think it's really important to read because like I said, it gives you important information about a certain character in the "Call of the Forgotten" series. I would also recommend it if you want more after the fourth book. I loved this novella, it's my favorite one out of the three. I loved seeing Ash and Meghan married and Puck was in it too. It was just so amazing and I gave it 5/5 Lily Pads.

The Guide about the NeverNever was really interesting and I liked reading about all the characters. Overall, if you loved the books, I really recommend reading this one because it's so good! I usually don't like reading novellas for series but I had to read these because the series is so amazing! I definitely think it's worth a buy. Thanks so much for reading and I will have more posts coming soon, bye! :)

Book Review: Tiny Pretty Things

Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton(Tiny Pretty Things #1)

Publication Date: May 26, 2015

Hardcover Edition-448 Pages

Genre-Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Mystery and Thriller

Trigger Warning: Substance Abuse and Eating Disorders

5/5 Lily Pads

Would I Recommend It? Yes!

 No Spoilers!!

Hey bookworms I'm back with a review. Today I am reviewing the first book I finished in March, which is "Tiny Pretty Things". This book has been on my TBR for a while and I'm so glad I finally read it. I actually buddy read it with my booktube friend, Rachel from "thelittlereadinglamb". I really loved this book! It was so good and read on to see why I loved it.

The Plot(Goodreads Summary)

Gigi, Bette, and June, three top students at an exclusive Manhattan ballet school, have seen their fair share of drama. Free-spirited new girl Gigi just wants to dance—but the very act might kill her. Privileged New Yorker Bette's desire to escape the shadow of her ballet star sister brings out a dangerous edge in her. And perfectionist June needs to land a lead role this year or her controlling mother will put an end to her dancing dreams forever. When every dancer is both friend and foe, the girls will sacrifice, manipulate, and backstab to be the best of the best.

My Opinion

Like I said before, I really loved this book. It was very unique and I've never read a book like it before. While I was reading it I got some Pretty Little Liars vibes and I loved that because I love the PLL series. I was intrigued to read this book because it's about dancing and I love to dance. I love reading books about dancing. Let's get on with the review.

First let's talk about the characters. This is one of those books where you can't trust any of the characters. Even though I liked the 3 main girls, I also didn't trust them. The book is in their perspectives so I loved being able to get into their twisted heads. First of all, I loved the diversity in this book. The first character I'm going to tell you about is Gigi. She is my favorite character in the book which is why I wanted to talk about her first. She is African-American which I loved because I love diversity. I loved her character the most because she was so sweet and so kind and I felt bad for everything that happened to her. I always love the nice characters, ha ha. Overall, I just loved her because of her kindness. I also love mean snobby characters too. The second main character is Bette. She is sort of snobby and she's definitely mean. She's been the leader of the school since she was little. She always got everything and she's very confident. She was not as nice as Gigi was but I still liked her because I just love mean snobby girls in books. I didn't approve of her actions because she was such a liar and a backstabber. I didn't trust her at all. Overall, I still liked her character and could relate to her a little bit because I understand how hard it is to not be able to be as good as your other sibling. The last main character is June. She is half Korean, which I loved because I love Asians, and I love reading about them. I wouldn't say she was very likable and pleasant either, but I did like her. I guess I can relate to all the girls in a way. June is sort of a loner because she got kicked out of her best friend's group of friends. They hate her and she doesn't try to be friends with anyone else. She was insecure and wanted to be the best dancer there. I felt bad for her because she's always the understudy, she never got a lead. She did some things I didn't really approve of. In the book she struggles with eating disorders. She wouldn't eat much and whenever she did, she would throw up all the food. Eating disorders make me very uncomfortable in general(I try to stay away from books about it) so at first I was really uncomfortable reading about her. After a while I got used to it and it didn't bother me anymore. Overall, I liked June but she wasn't my favorite character.
I liked the other supporting characters even though I didn't trust them either. So yeah the characters were developed well.

I really liked the writing. It was beautiful.

I loved the plot. First of all, I love New York so I'm so glad the book took place there. I love how it was about a Boarding School for Ballet. I've never read anything like it before. So the plot was very unique. The pacing was done really well. This book is pretty thick and I wasn't bored at all. It was very addicting and the book ended on a cliffhanger.

Overall, I loved this book. I knew this book was dark before reading it. I usually stay away from dark books because they make me uncomfortable, but I knew ahead of time and it didn't bother me. This book was crazy, there was so much drama. So, if your looking for a light, contemporary book I wouldn't recommend this one. If you love twisted thrillers about dance and boarding schools, I really recommend this book. This book is very underrated and more people need to read it. This book is definitely worth a buy and I can't wait for the sequel to come out in July. I already pre-ordered it since I loved the book so much. Thank you for reading this really long review. If you guys have read this book, please comment and tell me what you thought about it. I would love to hear your opinion because this book is so underrated and there's not a lot of reviews for it. Thanks again for reading and I will have more posts coming soon. Bye :)

Book Review: The Siren

The Siren by Kiera Cass

Hardcover Edition-327 Pages

Genre-Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy, Mermaids

5/5 Lily Pads

Would I Recommend It? Yes!!!!

No Spoilers!!

Hey guys, I'm back with a review. Today I am reviewing "The Siren" by Kiera Cass. Before I begin my review, I want you to know that I've read her "Selection" series. Well, I read the first two but I'm planning on reading the last three books. I loved the books and I really wanted to read this one because I love books about Siren's. I've read another series with Siren's called the "Watersong" series by Amanda Hocking and I really recommend that series because it's really good. So, if you loved this book I bet you will love that series too. Anyway, let's get on with the review.

The Plot(Goodreads Summary)

Years ago, Kahlen was rescued from drowning by the Ocean. To repay her debt, she has served as a Siren ever since, using her voice to lure countless strangers to their deaths. Though a single word from Kahlen can kill, she can’t resist spending her days on land, watching ordinary people and longing for the day when she will be able to speak and laugh and live freely among them again.

Kahlen is resigned to finishing her sentence in solitude...until she meets Akinli. Handsome, caring, and kind, Akinli is everything Kahlen ever dreamed of.

Falling in love with a human breaks the Ocean’s rules. But for the first time in a lifetime of following the rules, Kahlen is determined to follow her heart.

My Opinion

I loved this book so much you guys! This book is definitely my favorite book of 2016 so far, and it's also my favorite book of all time.

First let's talk about the writing.
I really enjoyed Kiera's writing style in this book. It was beautiful and perfect.

I really loved the plot for this book, it was so original. I loved reading about the Siren's and "The Ocean" made the book so original. I loved Kahlen's relationship with "Her". It was so cool how she was able to talk and communicate with "The Ocean." She felt like she was Kahlen's Mom. It was just so unique. I also thought the book was unique because when the girls are on land, they can't talk around people.

Finally let's talk about the characters.
First of all, I absolutely loved our main protagonist, Kahlen. She was so awesome and very relatable. She's very nice and caring and I just loved her so much. I loved her friends, Miaka, Elizabeth, Aisling and Padma. They were so nice and I loved reading about them. I loved Akinli so much! If you don't know, he is Kahlen's love interest. I loved him because he was so kind and genuine. He's not like most guys. I loved his relationship with Kahlen. It was so unique because she can't talk to him and he accepted it and still wanted to see her. I loved how he always gave her paper and a pen to write down what she can't say to him. Most guys wouldn't like a girl that can't talk, and I'm amazed by how much he cared about her. Their relationship was just so cool and I loved how even though she couldn't talk to him, they were able to form a relationship. I just loved their relationship overall. And if your wondering, no it wasn't insta-love. Their relationship was perfect. Yes, they didn't know each other for that long, but it just didn't feel like insta-love to me.

Overall, this book was amazing and I highly recommend it to everyone. This book was so unique and it's funny because I just read "Soundless" which was also a unique book. This book is definitely worth a buy and please don't listen to all the bad reviews. So yeah that's my review. Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for more, bye! :)
