Hey there, here is another review. Today I am reviewing "A Midsummer's Nightmare." Before I start my review I want you to know that this is my first Kody Keplinger book. Your probably wondering why I haven't read "The Duff" yet. I really wanna read it and I will definitely get to it some day. Anyway, let's get on with the review.

The Plot

Whitley Johnson's dream summer with her divorcé dad has turned into a nightmare. She's just met his new fiancée and her kids. The fiancée's son? Whitley's one-night stand from graduation night. Just freakin' great.

Worse, she totally doesn't fit in with her dad's perfect new country-club family. So Whitley acts out. She parties. Hard. So hard she doesn't even notice the good things right under her nose: a sweet little future stepsister who is just about the only person she's ever liked, a best friend (even though Whitley swears she doesn't "do" friends), and a smoking-hot guy who isn't her stepbrother...at least, not yet. It will take all three of them to help Whitley get through her anger and begin to put the pieces of her family together.

My Opinion

This book was so good! This book has been sitting on my shelf for like two years and I'm so glad I finally read it. I loved it!

First let's talk about the characters. First of all I loved our main protagonist, Whitley. A lot of people think she's not likable but I loved her. She was so relatable. She was whiny, bratty and selfish but she had a reason to be that way. I would feel the same way if I was in her situation. I loved her because she was just so refreshing to read about. She's a loner which I can relate to. She doesn't have any friends because she doesn't want friends because of a bad experience in school. She was independent but she was also insecure. I love reading about characters that are insecure because its so relatable and I'm sick of reading about confident, kick butt characters. She felt she didn't belong anywhere and no one loved her.

One of the reasons why I loved this book so much is because the main focus of this book is family. I love reading books about family because I'm a family-oriented person. You don't see books about family a lot in YA because the parents are usually gone. The whole book is basically about Whitley's biological family and her new stepfamily. I didn't like her Dad, I thought he was a jerk. I liked her new stepmom, Sylvia. She was really nice and supportive. I loved Nathan. He was a great guy and I just loved him because he was such a nice person. I also loved his sister, Bailey. She was so cute and lovable.

I love character development in books. Whitley changed a lot by the end of the book, which was awesome. I love how she became close to her new family.

I loved the writing style. It was so quick and simple. The pacing was perfect and a lot happened even though the book is so short.

Overall, I loved this book. It was such a good and very important read. I feel every teenager should read this book because it has a lot of good life lessons in it. Whitley learns a lot and becomes a better person. This book has partying and drinking in it, but it's pretty clean. Whitley stops partying and drinking at the end of the book. I felt I should say that because she did the right thing and I feel lots of teens in this society need guidance. If they read this book, they would learn that drinking and partying isn't okay, and it's really important to quit bad habits because it could really affect your life. Anyway since this book was amazing, I think it is worth a buy. Thank you so much for reading, I really appreciate it. Stay tuned for  more coming soon. Happy reading :)
