Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Hardcover Edition, borrowed from Library
5 Lily Pads!!
Hi, I'm back with a new book review. Today I will be reviewing "Fangirl" by Rainbow Rowell. First of all, let me start with saying that I've been wanting to read this book for so long. I almost bought it at Barnes & Noble a couple times, but it was too expensive. I waited a while to borrow this book from the library, and it was always taken out. Finally I got to read it. It was so good! I really want to buy my own copy. I did not like "Eleanor and Park" but this book was just so good. Let's get on with the review. :)
The Plot
Cath is a Simon Snow fan.
Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan...
But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.
Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.
Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.
Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words... And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?
Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?
And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?
My Opinion
So basically, this book is about a eighteen year old girl named Cath. She is a freshman in college. She is a twin and is scared to go to college. Her twin, Wren doesn't want to live in the same dorm room, so Cath has to room with a girl named Raegan. She writes fanfiction and is obsessed with this popular book series called, "Snow Snow" which is similar to Harry Potter. She stsys in her dorm room and writes fanfiction instead of going out and hanging with people. She ends up meeting her roommates's ex-boyfriend Levi. Levi helps her and supports her.
I didn't want to write any spoilers. I loved this book! The main reason why I loved this book so much is because the main character, Cath is exactly like me. I thought Rainbow Rowell wrote this book about me, it was so creepy. First of all, I'm an identical twin just like Cath. I understood the sister bond Cath and Wren had because I am a twin and I am very close to my twin sister. Cath and I both have brown hair and purple glasses. We are both nerdy, and I write fanfiction. I loved the plot of this book because Cath writes fanfiction like me. Also Cath has social anxiety just like me! It was so creepy and weird reading this book because I could relate so much to Cath. She is one of my favorite female protagonist. Rainbow Rowell writes amazing characters and her plots are so creative and original. I understand why she is a popular author. I also loved the other characters. I liked Raegan, Wren was a great character too. I loved Levi!! Levi was such a great guy! I loved him so much. He was outgoing but also had a nerdy side to him. I love how well he treated Cath and he saw things in her that she didn't see herself. I love when a guy helps a girl that isn't confident. I loved him because he liked a nerdy girl. He always asked Cath to read him her fanfiction and I love that he supported Cath for everything she did. He was such a great character and the author did a great job developing the characters. The romance wasn't rushed at all, it was so cute! The ending was rushed, the book sort of just ended. I guess Rainbow Rowell wanted her readers to think of their own endings. This book was just so incredible. There's family problems and I think anyone can relate to this book. I'm not in college but I was so able to relate to Cath because I am just like her. Like I said before, I literally thought I was reading about myself. I will so be reading her other books. I am so glad I had the chance to finally read this book and someday I will be buying my own copy. If your looking for a cute, contemporary read, this is the perfect book for you. I was a little scared going into this book because of the hype but I had nothing to worry about. Before this book I read "The Fault In Our Stars" so I was scared to read another book because TFIOS was so amazing!! Please go read this book now!! You should buy this book now!
