Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard
(Pretty Little Liars #1)
Edition-Ebook/Kindle edition
5/5 Lily Pads
No Spoilers!
I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone under 16 years old. It has swearing, references to sexual content, some drinking and mentions cutting.
I want to start this review by saying I was never interested in reading this book/series. I never saw the TV show and I never knew what it was about. That all changed when I started watching Rachel(my booktube friend). This series is one of her favorite series. She loves it so much and I have similar taste in books as her so I thought I would try it. I actually got it on my kindle for free, that was lucky. I actually read this for a read-along hosted by Rachel(thelittlereadinglamb). She is doing a read-along on goodreads. Every month we read one book from the series, so I read it in January.

Okay, anyway sorry for that long intro. Let's get on with the review.
The Plot
I'm not going to describe the plot much because this book is one of those books that you should go into not knowing anything about it, because it makes it more fun to read. That's what I did and it made my experience awesome because I didn't know what I was getting into. This book has lots of mystery in it.
It's basically about a group of 4 girls. Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily have been best friends for years. They were really close. It all changed 3 years ago when their good friend, Alison disappeared for no reason. No one knows why she left and what happened to her. It turns out the girls have some secrets of their own. They end their friendship and go their own ways. While they live their lives they keep getting texts and emails from someone named "A". They don't know who "A" is and it turns out "A" knows all their deepest secrets. Will they discover who is behind all the texts? Will they find out what happened to Alison? Read the book to find out.
My Opinion
This book really surprised me. I'm surprised by how much I loved it. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but I was wrong. The characters weren't very likable and that's why I liked the book. I like reading books where I can't relate to it. I couldn't relate to the characters at all, I love reading characters who are so different from me. However, my favorite characters are Aria and Spencer. I liked their stories the best. The book is told in third person, and each chapter is about a different character. I thought the plot was cool and unique. The plot made the book addicting to read. I really wanted to know who "A" is. The pacing was perfect. I'm not really sure what genre this book is. I know it's Young Adult because the characters are in high school. I think it's contemporary with mystery in it. I liked the author's writing, it was very simple. I loved this book because there's lots of dialogue in it, and I love books with dialogue more than description. That's why I love contemporary books. If you love contemporary books with some mystery I would highly recommend this book. I have to warn you though, if you want to read this book, I recommend to buy the second book "Flawless" with it because it ends on a huge cliffhanger. At the end I was so shocked and I needed to know what happens next.
Last weekend I went on a trip to New Hampshire to visit my Grandparents. I went to a bookstore and they had a bind-up of the first two books. I had to buy it since I didn't have a physical copy of the first book. I'm so happy I bought it because now I will be participating in the read-along this month for "Flawless".
So that's my review. I hope you enjoyed it. If your looking for a quick, entertaining contemporary book with some mystery I would recommend this book. I heard the books are a lot different than the show, but I would still recommend reading this. Also, join the read-along if your interested. Like I said we read one book a month. I highly recommend this book and I think it's worth a buy. So that's my review, thank you so much for reading. I will have a review on my channel soon, I just have to edit and upload it :) Bye!
