Beware of Spoilers!!!
So I finished this book today. This was actually my second time reading it, and I was still surprised and amazed!! I totally forgot who the secret person was, though it was pretty obvious. I loved the book the first time I read it, and I still loved it the second time. It was the perfect summer book to read. Some people were really annoyed with the main character, but I actually liked her throughout the whole book, even the beginning! Yes, she was a snob in the beginning but I actually liked that. The reason why I liked her attitude is because it's very different from most books I read. Most books I read have a main character that's strong or not very confident with low self-esteem. The character did lack confidence, but at times she was also full of herself, which I liked because like I said before it is different. I got to read a book about a snobby brat, in her point of view. I thought it was funny how she complained almost the whole time. In the oddest way I could relate to her. She's trying to find herself and doesn't know what she wants to do with her life yet. I could so relate to that. Even now I still don't know myself completely and have no idea what I want to do with my life, other than write! The book was very predictable, but that wasn't a bad thing. All I wanted was a cute summer read and that's what I got. The main character changed throughout the book which I loved! In the beginning she was seen as a spoiled brat who wanted to impress her new fake friends and crowd. By the end, she realized she is a geek and she's okay with that! Let me tell you what the book is actually about:
Okay so the book is about a seventeen year old girl named Colby Cavendish. It is the summer of her upcoming senior year of high school. She is looking forward to the summer because she hooked up with a guy she really wanted. Now she dumped her best friend Natalie to be in the in crowd. The leader Amanda took Colby under her wing and allowed her to be in the cool group. So Colby abandoned her friend and took advantage of going from a total dork, to a cool chick. She was so excited for the summer cause it is supposed to be the best summer ever! But then she finds out her parents are getting a divorce. Now her parents are sending her to Greece for the summer to spend time with her "Crazy Aunt Tally." Colby is so mad that she can't spend the summer with the cool group. She has to go on an Island that no one ever heard of. The book is told in Colby's point of view. The book is filled with letters, Colby's journal entries and her blog. There is not much dialogue since she tells everything from her diary and blog. I liked that, it was different. Alyson Noel does a great job putting herself in the shoes of an average teenage girl. But that's not all! Colby finds out her mom is selling the house! So most of the book is Colby complaining about her boring bad life. One day she checks her blog and sees that someone posted a comment. It doesn't have a name, it is signed as "Anonymous." Colby tries to figure out who the person could be. That secret person always post comments on her blog and she responds back. I liked the mystery part of that. Throughout the book I was trying to figure out who the person could be. Then later in the book she meets a guy named Yannis. He is a nice guy and hangs out with Colby. Colby tells herself not to get too close to him, because he is just a summer fling. But by the end of the book, her and Yannis have a very good relationship and they don't want to leave each other. Colby learns a lot about her Aunt Tally. She enjoys staying with her Aunt and Tally's boyfriend Tassos. She ends up not wanting to leave the small island Tinos. She tries to get her parents to let her stay but her plan doesn't work. This book really taught me a lot. I learned to be thankful for what you have, and no matter how hard life can be, you'll always be okay and be able to handle whatever comes your way. This book was really amazing! I give it five stars on goodreads! The book isn't very big. It's about 220 pages. I love Alyson Noel's work and I will be reading all her other books. Yep, that was my review and stay tuned for more! Also go and buy this book now! You won't regret it! And if you hate Colby in the beginning, don't put the book down, keep reading it and it will really surprise you.! I know it surprised me. So, bye!!!!
