The Plot
A princess must find her place in a reborn world.
She flees on her wedding day.
She steals ancient documents from the Chancellor's secret collection.
She is pursued by bounty hunters sent by her own father.
She is Princess Lia, seventeen, First Daughter of the House of Morrighan.
The Kingdom of Morrighan is steeped in tradition and the stories of a bygone world, but some traditions Lia can't abide. Like having to marry someone she's never met to secure a political alliance.
Fed up and ready for a new life, Lia flees to a distant village on the morning of her wedding. She settles in among the common folk, intrigued when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. Deceptions swirl and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—secrets that may unravel her world—even as she feels herself falling in love.

The Writing
First of all, Mary E. Pearson is a wonderful writer. I really love her writing style. The style is just beautiful and very detailed, but not in a boring way. It's sort of mystical, and it makes you feel like your really in a Fantasy world. I love the way she describes everything. It's very easy to understand. I love the way she writes dialogue. Dialogue is my favorite part of reading, I love the conversations between characters. Her dialogue in this series is witty, and just very nice. She is very good at explaining things in a way that's not confusing at all. She's very good at pacing. In "The Kiss of Deception" I didn't think the book was slow, same with "The Heart of Betrayal". All the books are very long but they never dragged for me. I was entertained the whole time. I love reading long Fantasy books because you never know what's going to happen. I loved that the books were in first person, because that's my favorite perspective to read in. This series is awesome because it's in multiple pov's. It's in the pov of Lia our main protagonist. It's also in the pov's of Kaden and Rafe which I love because I can see what's going on in their heads. I just love reading multiple pov's in general, especially in Fantasy books. It just makes books more interesting to read. So I give her props for doing that. This series is very unique because in "The Kiss of Deception" you read the pov's of the "Prince" and the "Assassin", but you don't know who's who. I was totally wrong, I was shocked when it was revealed in the end of the book. I just think that was so unique and special. I've never seen that in a book before and it really makes this series stand-out and shine.
The Plot
I loved the plot of this series because I love Fantasy books and I absolutely love books about royalty and princesses. I just love reading that genre, especially fairy-tale re-tellings. So the plot really intrigued me and I just loved it!
The World
I love the world that Mary E. Pearson created. Basically, there are three kingdoms: Morrighan, Dalbreck and Venda. I loved how we got to explore each Kingdom in all of the books. I love reading about Kingdoms in general so of course I loved the world and the world building was perfect. I think this trilogy is perfect for people who want to get into Fantasy books because the world building isn't confusing at all, it's so easy to understand. Mary doesn't throw a lot of information in your face. I personally don't like too much world building so this series was great for me.
The Characters
Last but not least, I wanna talk about the main reason I loved this series so much: the characters!
When it comes to books, characters are very important to me. If a book has awesome characters, I'll usually love the book. I don't really care about the plot or world building, because the characters are my main focus. In this series, the characters are just absolutely incredible! It takes talent to create characters that are so likable. I wish these characters were my friends. They were definitely the best part of this series.
First let's talk about our main protagonist Lia, the "Princess of Morrighan". First of all, I love Princesses. I love books with them and Princes too. Of course I loved Lia because she's royalty but that's not the only reason I love her. I love Lia because she's a very special person. She's so kind and I love that about her. She's the kind of person that's nice to everyone, or tries to be. She's very likable and I just loved her kind nature. She really cares about the people she loves. She cared so much about her friends and family. I loved how sweet she was. I also loved her tough side too. She was very kick butt and strong. She didn't let people get her down and she tried to hide her emotions. She was a great leader and I love that she was so good at using weapons. She's not your typical Princess. She pretty much saved everyone and her Kingdoms. I loved how devoted she was to Morrighan and Venda. Overall, Lia was such a great character to read about. I love her so much and I'm glad she got her happy ending.
The next character I wanna talk about is "Prince Rafe of Dalbreck". First of all, I always loved Rafe. I loved him since the first book. I have a soft spot for Princes but that's not the only reason why I loved him. I loved Rafe because he was such a great guy. He is so kind and I love his dedication to his kingdom. He is officially on my book boyfriend's list now. I love him so much! I always root for the nice guy. His love for Lia was just so sweet!
While we're talking about Rafe let's talk about the romance. First of all, I shipped Rafe and Lia together since the first book. I love them together so much!! I was rooting for them the whole time. They are just perfect for each other and I love that they are both royalty. Their relationship was just so cute and I can't get enough of them. I was so frustrated while reading "Beauty of Darkness" because I couldn't stand them being apart. I hated that they were arguing and I just wanted them to be together again! I almost cried when they said they couldn't be together. I am so glad they got their happy ending, they needed to be together. They are true soul mates. I really hope they get married and have kids some day. The romance was just so amazing!
Next I'm going to talk about the Assassin, Kaden. In the first book I liked Kaden but didn't love him. I think I started loving him in "Heart of Betrayal". I was always shipping Rafe and Lia. I knew Kaden loved her but I didn't really want them to be together. However, if Lia ended up with Kaden I would've been happy too because I also loved him. Kaden is so sweet and nice. I love his friendship with Lia. I love how close they got compared to the second book. They both love Venda and the ending was perfect. I loved that Lia was Queen of Venda and Kaden was there with her. Their friendship was just so awesome! I just love Kaden now. He's so loyal to his friends and his kingdom, he was just such a great guy. Even though we didn't get to see their relationship much, I loved him and Pauline together. I always thought that they would be cute together and I just think they are a great couple. I loved that Kaden really cared about her baby. Overall, I loved him so much in "Beauty of Darkness". His character development was amazing.
I really liked all the side characters. I'm not going to name all of them because there's too many. I loved Lia's parent's and brothers. I loved Rafe's friends so much! They were so nice and I love that they were so sweet to Lia. I was so sad when I found out Jeb died because I loved him, he was my favorite out of all of Rafe's friends. I loved Pauline, and all of Lia's friends too. I hated the Komizar and I really wanted him dead.
Overall this trilogy was so amazing! I loved all the books. I'm so sad it's over and I'm really going to miss these characters. I really want more, I would love for her to write another book. These characters will stick with me for a long time. I will definitely be rereading this series in the future. I really recommend this series to everyone. These books are definitely worth a buy. Thank you so much for reading this long review. I love you guys. I'll have more posts coming soon so stay tuned for that, bye and happy reading!
