Hardcover Edition-Bought
2/5 Lily Pads
No Spoilers!
Hey everyone, here is another review. Today I am reviewing "Renegade" by J.A. Souders. This is book one in the "Elysium Chronicles" series. I didn't really like this book much, which is why I gave it 2 Lily Pads. Let's get on with the review.
The Plot
This book is hard for me to describe so here is the description from goodreads
Since the age of three,
sixteen-year-old Evelyn Winters has been trained to be Daughter of the
People in the underwater utopia known as Elysium. Selected from hundreds
of children for her ideal genes, all her life she’s thought that
everything was perfect; her world. Her people. The Law.
But when Gavin Hunter, a Surface Dweller, accidentally stumbles into their secluded little world, she’s forced to come to a startling realization: everything she knows is a lie.
Her memories have been altered.
Her mind and body aren’t under her own control.
And the person she knows as Mother is a monster.
Together with Gavin she plans her escape, only to learn that her own mind is a ticking time bomb... and Mother has one last secret that will destroy them all.

My Opinion
This is a dystopian book, and that's why I didn't like it. Dystopian books aren't for me because I just can't get myself to like them. Whenever I read a Dystopian, I end up not liking it so I guess it's not the genre for me.
First I'm going to tell you why I didn't like it.
The main reason why I didn't like this book is because I found it very boring. The plot sounded amazing and I was so interested in reading it. The beginning was really good but it went downhill and got really boring. I didn't want to keep reading it but I forced myself to finish it. Most people would probably think its not boring because there's lots of action in it, but I just couldn't get into it.
Another reason why I didn't like this book was the insta-love. Yes, this book has insta-love in it which was a problem for me. In books I hate insta-love and I just hate rushed romances. It's not realistic and it usually throws me off and makes me want to stop reading. It wasn't that bad. The main characters Evelyn and Gavin only knew each other for 5 days and they "loved" each other. I don't believe that at all. So as you can tell, I didn't like the romance.
What I liked
I liked the author's writing style, it was very simple.
I liked the protagonist, Evelyn. She was a pretty good kick-butt character. I thought Gavin was okay. He was nice but I never got attached to him.
The plot was original, it's not like the typical other dystopian books because this one takes place underwater, so I thought that was very cool.
So that was my review. Since I didn't really like the book, I'm not planning on reading the second book. I feel bad that I didn't like it but it just wasn't for me. I think other readers would like this book. If you're looking for a cool, different dystopian book with insta-love, I would recommend this book. I don't think this book is worth a buy. I think people should borrow this book first, just to see if you like it. That's my review, thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for more reviews coming soon. I will also have a video review on my youtube channel soon so stay tuned for that too :) Bye.
