Hey guys! I'm back for a new review. I haven't written a review in a long time. Now I'm back with more for you. Today I am reviewing "Forgive My Fins". I thought this was a cute, light, romance. This book is the perfect summer read. Now without further ado let's get on with the review!

The Plot(backcover)

Lily has a secret, and it's not her huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper fast. Lily's mermaid identity is a secret that can't get out, since she's not just any mermaid-she's a Thalassinian princess. When she discovered three years ago that her mother was actually a human, Lily finally realized why she didn't feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she's been going to Seaview High ever since. Living on land has its problems-like her obnoxious biker-boy neighbor, Quince Fletcher-but it has that one major perk: Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren't really the casual dating type-when they bond, it's for life. When Lily's attempt to win Brody's love leads to a tsunami-sized case of mistaken identity, she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily ever after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned.

My Review

Okay, so this book took me a long time to read. It was a short book, not long at all. I put it down because halfway through, I didn't like it. Read on to see my opinion.

The Characters

Okay, at first our main character Lily, really annoyed me. Well, I'll admit I liked her at first. Halfway through I got so annoyed with her. She is selfish, shallow and clueless. Lily is a mermaid princess. She wants to bond with the guy she's loved for 3 years, Brody. What annoyed me was, she loved this guy for 3 years, and she hardly talked to him. She barely even knows him. She loved him from afar. The reason why I said she was shallow and annoying is because she was such a brat when she didn't get her way. Throughout the whole first half of the book, all she did was complain and whine about everything that happens to her. Something happens with her and Quince. Okay, I understand that she hates Quince because he always picks on her but she treated him so badly.  Honestly he didn't deserve it. He's actually a really nice guy. I know he cares about Lily. I was also annoyed with her because throughout the whole book, she was so obsessed with Brody. I didn't get why she even liked Brody. She only loves him because he's a great swimmer. Yeah, that's a good reason to love someone. Her obsession annoyed me after a long time. She was so clueless and oblivious. There is a guy that is always with her, and yet she doesn't truly notice him because she's too busy drooling over Brody. I don't want to spoil anything, but I bet you can tell what happens. This book was so predictable.

The Setting

I loved the setting. Part of the book takes place underwater where Lily's Kingdom is. I loved reading when she was in the ocean because I love water. I also liked how she lives with her Aunt when she's on land.

What did I like?

Okay I told you the first half of the book annoyed me because of Lily. I put the book down for days and it put me in a reading slump. Yesterday I picked up the book again, and my opinion completely changed. I don't know what happened, but I started to like the book. Maybe its because Lily started to mature a little. For some reason, I ended up liking the book and not hating it. I pretty much liked everything about the book except for Lily.

What I didn't Like?

I told you, I mostly just hated Lily. She really grew as a character and that's why I finished the book. At first I had a hard time getting into the story because it wasn't amazing, but I'm glad I kept reading.

Did the title go with the book?
Yeah, the title is perfect. It fits well with the story.

Did the cover attract your attention?
Yes! The cover is gorgeous. I love all the colors, so pretty. The cover matched the plot of the book because Lily is on the cover.

How was the pacing?

I thought the pacing was really good. It was fast and I liked it. I felt the romance wasn't rushed at all. To me it wasn't insta-love at all, and I hate rushed love. The dialogue was good and fun to read. The sea slang was really cute. After I finished the book, I was satisfied with the happy ending. I love reading books that make you smile. I think the message of this book is, you can't always plan your future and it won't always turn out the way you want it too. There will be unexpected twists for the better. Sometimes you will find love with someone you never expected.
Overall, I really did like this book. I started off hating it, but halfway through I ended up liking it. I'm really glad I finished it. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves mermaids. Is it worth a buy? Maybe. I got this book for a cheap price, but since Lily was annoying, I recommend to borrow it from the library. I liked the book, but didn't love it. Maybe someday I will read the other two books in the trilogy. But I still recommend this book for the summertime. That's my review. Thank you for reading and stay tuned for more coming up.
