Book Review: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Paperback Edition, Bought
4/5 Lily Pads
Pages-377

Hey guys! I'm back with another review. This series has so much hype, and I really wanted to read it. So I finally read it, and it was so good! I filmed a video too, so I will put the video down below. Please check out my YouTube Channel. The link is on the right of my blog.  Let's get on with the review!

The Plot:(goodreads summary)

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is

My Opinion:

This book was really good! I get all the hype. Jennifer Armentrout's writing is so amazing! The book was perfect.
I loved the plot, and the characters. I loved the main character Katy. She is such a normal, awesome girl. She stands up for herself, doesn't let anyone mess with her. Also, she has a book blog! That is amazing, I can relate to her. I loved her best friend, Dee. Dee is the nicest person. I wish I could be friends with them both. Daemon is cool. He is a huge jerk, but he warms up to Katy. I love how their relationship isn't rushed at all. There's no insta-love. Thank you!! I hate insta-love. I am so gonna read the rest of this series. I was a little scared to read this because of the hype. I didn't have to worry, because I get the hype. I'm not a fan of paranormal, science fictions books, but I really enjoyed this one. Also the dialogue between Katy and Daemon was hilarious!! I laughed out loud alot. This book was just, so good! I didn't give it 5 Lily pads, because, it wasn't so amazing, but it was really good! I hope the other books are better. Do I recommend this series? Duh! This series is so worth a buy. You will not regret it. Share this book with your friends and family. The only thing is, there's alot of swearing in this book. Overall, Obsidian was such a great read and I really recommend this book! Thanks for reading, and happy reading!

Book Review: McGrowl- Beware of Dog by Bob Balaban

McGrowl-Beware of Dog by Bob Balaban
Paperback Edition, Bought
5/5 Lily Pads
Pages: 176
No Spoilers!

Hey guys! I'm back with another review. Today I am reviewing "Beware of Dog." First of all let me tell you, I had this book for a long time. I got this book in fifth grade, and I've read it a million times. This is a reread. This is a series with six books. It is middle-grade and it was a nice break of reading YA books. This book also got me out of my reading slump. So, let's begin with the review!

The Plot: (goodreads summary)

Meet Thomas and his new best friend McGrowl--a courageous canine who's bionic to the bone!

When Thomas's loveable dog McGrowl is hit by a car, Thomas is heartbroken. But just when he thinks McGrowl will be lost to him forever, the mysterious vet Dr. Minderbinder steps in to save the day. After a strange operation, McGrowl is alive, but he has been changed forever. McGrowl now has super speed, super hearing, and superpowerful sight, smell, and strength -- and a few super-funny tics. Now Thomas and his bionic dog must take on the evil Dr. Minderbinder and foil his sneaky plans. Can this one-of-a-kind canine superhero save the day?

My Opinion:

Like I said before, this is a reread for me. I've read this book lots of times and I still love it to this day. :) The characters are awesome, and I can relate to them. I always wanted a dog, so I understood how Thomas was feeling. This book is so different, in a good way. A dog that has superpowers sounds amazing doesn't it? This is a series but the only other book I read in this series is the 5th book, and I was able to understand it. This book has villains of course, and was just so entertaining to read. This book is also very short. The writing is very cheesy, and there's actually alot of big words in this book, I don't even know. I recommend  all middle schoolers and younger kids to read this series like I did. Actually, I think any age should read this book. If you love animals read this book. It's just such a cute book. I like reading middle-grade books, and there's nothing wrong with it. It's nice to take a break from reading YA and Adult books. Overall, this is a great book and a great series, so if you love animals and want to read a middle-grade book, I recommend this book. Thanks for reading! Sorry this review is so short, it was perfect, I didn't have any problems with this book. I am so sorry guys. I just tried to upload and edit my video review on this book but something happened. My video froze throughout the whole thing. I don't know what happened. Should I refilm the review? I might. Please check out my YouTube Channel. Click on the link on the right of my blog. I am currently reading "Obsidian" and I love it so far. Happy Reading! :)

Book Review: Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs

Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs
Paperback Edition, Bought from Book Outlet
3/5 Lily Pads
293 Pages
No Spoilers!!!

Hey guys! I'm back for a new review. I haven't written a review in a long time. Now I'm back with more for you. Today I am reviewing "Forgive My Fins". I thought this was a cute, light, romance. This book is the perfect summer read. Now without further ado let's get on with the review!

The Plot(backcover)

Lily has a secret, and it's not her huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper fast. Lily's mermaid identity is a secret that can't get out, since she's not just any mermaid-she's a Thalassinian princess. When she discovered three years ago that her mother was actually a human, Lily finally realized why she didn't feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she's been going to Seaview High ever since. Living on land has its problems-like her obnoxious biker-boy neighbor, Quince Fletcher-but it has that one major perk: Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren't really the casual dating type-when they bond, it's for life. When Lily's attempt to win Brody's love leads to a tsunami-sized case of mistaken identity, she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily ever after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned.

My Review

Okay, so this book took me a long time to read. It was a short book, not long at all. I put it down because halfway through, I didn't like it. Read on to see my opinion.

The Characters

Okay, at first our main character Lily, really annoyed me. Well, I'll admit I liked her at first. Halfway through I got so annoyed with her. She is selfish, shallow and clueless. Lily is a mermaid princess. She wants to bond with the guy she's loved for 3 years, Brody. What annoyed me was, she loved this guy for 3 years, and she hardly talked to him. She barely even knows him. She loved him from afar. The reason why I said she was shallow and annoying is because she was such a brat when she didn't get her way. Throughout the whole first half of the book, all she did was complain and whine about everything that happens to her. Something happens with her and Quince. Okay, I understand that she hates Quince because he always picks on her but she treated him so badly.  Honestly he didn't deserve it. He's actually a really nice guy. I know he cares about Lily. I was also annoyed with her because throughout the whole book, she was so obsessed with Brody. I didn't get why she even liked Brody. She only loves him because he's a great swimmer. Yeah, that's a good reason to love someone. Her obsession annoyed me after a long time. She was so clueless and oblivious. There is a guy that is always with her, and yet she doesn't truly notice him because she's too busy drooling over Brody. I don't want to spoil anything, but I bet you can tell what happens. This book was so predictable.

The Setting

I loved the setting. Part of the book takes place underwater where Lily's Kingdom is. I loved reading when she was in the ocean because I love water. I also liked how she lives with her Aunt when she's on land.

What did I like?

Okay I told you the first half of the book annoyed me because of Lily. I put the book down for days and it put me in a reading slump. Yesterday I picked up the book again, and my opinion completely changed. I don't know what happened, but I started to like the book. Maybe its because Lily started to mature a little. For some reason, I ended up liking the book and not hating it. I pretty much liked everything about the book except for Lily.

What I didn't Like?

I told you, I mostly just hated Lily. She really grew as a character and that's why I finished the book. At first I had a hard time getting into the story because it wasn't amazing, but I'm glad I kept reading.

Did the title go with the book?
Yeah, the title is perfect. It fits well with the story.

Did the cover attract your attention?
Yes! The cover is gorgeous. I love all the colors, so pretty. The cover matched the plot of the book because Lily is on the cover.

How was the pacing?

I thought the pacing was really good. It was fast and I liked it. I felt the romance wasn't rushed at all. To me it wasn't insta-love at all, and I hate rushed love. The dialogue was good and fun to read. The sea slang was really cute. After I finished the book, I was satisfied with the happy ending. I love reading books that make you smile. I think the message of this book is, you can't always plan your future and it won't always turn out the way you want it too. There will be unexpected twists for the better. Sometimes you will find love with someone you never expected.
Overall, I really did like this book. I started off hating it, but halfway through I ended up liking it. I'm really glad I finished it. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves mermaids. Is it worth a buy? Maybe. I got this book for a cheap price, but since Lily was annoying, I recommend to borrow it from the library. I liked the book, but didn't love it. Maybe someday I will read the other two books in the trilogy. But I still recommend this book for the summertime. That's my review. Thank you for reading and stay tuned for more coming up. Also check out my YouTube channel please. :) Happy Reading!

Friday Reads!

Hey guys, you know what time it is? It's time for another Friday Reads post! Not much is going on right now but I'm still reading. I'm currently still reading "Forgive My Fins". It's okay so far. Not spectacular or amazing. The main character is really annoying me. She annoys me so much, I want to put down the book and not finish it. But I am finishing the book. Hopefully I will finish the book soon. I will do a book review when I'm done with it. Then you can see if I liked the book or not. I don't have an April TBR because I'm gonna pick books randomly from my TBR Jar. I'm trying to take my time and not rush. Hopefully I will do a bookshelf tour. I really want to do a tour, but it will take a long time to film. Again sorry for my lack of reviews. I will doing more reviews soon.

Here is my video. Stay tuned more more soon, bye and have a great weekend. :)
