Book Reviews: The Selection & The Elite

Some Spoilers!
"The Selection" by Kiera Cass
Hardcover Edition-Borrowed from Library
4 Stars!
327 Pages!

Recently I finished reading "The Selection" by Kiera Cass and I really liked this book. This is my first book from Kiera Cass, and it won't be my last. She is a great author, and is good at keeping the reader entertained. I heard nothing but good things about this book, so I had to read it.

The Plot:

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

My Thoughts:

I thought this book was really good, but wasn't amazing. The writing caught my attention from the beginning and I enjoyed reading this book. This book brought me out of my world and into the future. I thought the characters were fine. I loved the main character, America Singer. I love her so much! She is so different and unique and strong. She stands up for what she believes in and is so kind to everyone. America is so normal, which I like about her. She's not stuck-up or conceited, and she didn't even want to be in the competition at all.  I love that America is a musician, because I'm a musician too. Yes, America is a Singer and she plays piano and violin. She is also very caring. I think she would make a good Queen.
I liked Prince Maxon. He was very sweet and kind, especially to America.
I also liked Aspen. He is America's boyfriend and first love. He breaks up with America when she joins the selection. He told her to sign up for the selection because he loves her and wants the best for her. The government has different "castes". The higher the number, the better and richer you are. America is a five and Aspen is a six. America's life is hard. She has to help her family and find food. Aspen tells her to sign up, so she can have a better life. I really liked Aspen because he was so sweet to America and risked his life for her.
I liked the other contestants except for Celeste of course. Celeste is the biggest snob and brat ever. She is a two, so she's rich and stuck-up. I wanted to punch her in the face. She was so mean to everyone and she didn't deserve to stay in the competition.

This book was really good and I recommend everyone to read it. If you like princess books, this is the book for you.

"The Elite" by Kiera Cass.
Hardcover Edition-Borrowed from Library
4 Stars!
323 Pages!

"The Elite" is the second book in "The Selection" Trilogy. I am waiting for book three to come out next year. I like "The Selection" but I liked this book a lot more. This was a great sequel. There's a lot more action and drama.
(If you don't want spoilers, don't read this review).

The Plot:

Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Illea.

America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.

Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.

My Thoughts:

I really liked this book more than the first. A lot more happens and there is a love triangle.
America is still in the competition, but now it's down to 6 girls. Who will Prince Maxon choose?
America loves Maxon but she can't get over Aspen. It becomes a bigger problem when Aspen becomes her guard. Now they have to meet in secret, but they must be careful. Bad things will happen if they get caught. America keeps thinking about her feeling's for Maxon, but she's not sure how he feels about her anymore. They had a good bond and friendship, no everything is different. Maxon is hanging with the other girls more than America. Does he not like America anymore? America sees Maxon hanging with Kriss and kissing Celeste. She feels she can't trust Maxon anymore, so she hangs with her ex, Aspen.
This book was so good, and I feel so bad for America's best friend, Marlee. I won't spoil what happens to her. You'll have to read the book to find out.
I didn't love the love triangle. In the first book, I loved Maxon so much. In this book, I didn't like him at all. He is such a jerk in this book. He doesn't treat America right and he hooks up with the other girls. America gets heart broken and she spends more time with Aspen in private.
I am so on Team Aspen! I love him. He really loves America and I feel bad because they planned a future together before "The Selection". While Maxon ignores America, Aspen treats her well, and he is always there for her. I can give you more reasons why I'm on Team Aspen, but I don't want to write them all down. If you disagree with me and love Maxon, please comment and tell me why you love Maxon. This book was the best sequel for a series I've ever read. I can't wait to read the last book in the trilogy. Like I said before, I love the characters and will be rooting for America.
That's my review and if you read the first book, you have to read this one.
If you never read this series, you have to read it. This series is worth a buy or a borrow from the library. That's my review and I will be posting more soon so, bye!

Book Review: Enchanted

Enchanted by Alethea Kontis
Hardcover Edition- Borrowed from Library
3 Stars!
305 Pages!
No Spoilers!

Today I finished reading "Enchanted" by Alethea Kontis and it was okay. I liked the book, but I didn't love it. Continue reading to find out why I didn't love the book.

The Plot:

It isn't easy being Sunday's child, not when you're the rather overlooked and unhappy youngest sibling to sisters named for the other six days of the week. Sunday's only comfort is writing stories, although what she writes has a terrible tendency to come true. When Sunday meets an enchanted frog who asks about her stories, the two become friends. Soon that friendship deepens into something magical. One night, Sunday kisses her frog goodbye and leaves, not realizing that her love has transformed him back into Rumbold, the crown prince of Arilland and a man Sunday's family despises. The Prince returns to his castle, intent on making Sunday fall in love with him as the man he is, not the frog he was. But Sunday is not so easy to woo. How can she feel such a strange, strong attraction to this prince she barely knows? And what twisted secrets lie hidden in his past, and hers?

My Thoughts:

Like I said before, this book was okay. The plot made the book seem really interesting and I love the cover. I started reading the book and I liked it. The beginning was good and interesting. As I continued reading, somehow the story became boring. I was confused about what was happening at times, and I couldn't get into the rest of the story. I continued reading and finished the book. The book got better after halfway through. I liked the parts with Sunday and Rumbold the best. I got bored with the other scenes and didn't care for some of the characters. I liked all of the sisters and Sunday's family. I thought Rumbold was a nice guy. I know this is a fairy tale retelling, but the love was rushed. Rumbold and Sunday knew each other for three days, and they are already in love with each other. But, I thought they were cute together. I liked how the author put in other fairy tales. I think the author did a good job with the story and she's a great writer, I personally didn't love the book, but that doesn't mean you won't. I might read the second book in the series. I don't know, this book was disappointing to me. Do I recommend this book? Yes! Everyone should read this book.
Also if you love retellings of "The Frog Prince", I recommend "The Frog Princess" by E.D Baker. I love that book. So, if your into fairy tales, go pick up this book. This book gets 3 stars!

Book Review: Fresh Temptation

Fresh Temptation by Reeni Austin
Kindle Edition-Free eBook
4 Stars!!!
196 Pages!
I'm not sure if this is an adult book, but I think so. There is some sex in it so I recommend this book for mature readers.
Spoilers!

Today I finished reading "Fresh Temptation" by Reeni Austin and I liked it. I got this book for free on my kindle. This eBook is a cute, light romance with some drama. It was good for a free eBook. I liked the characters and was entertained throughout the whole book.

The Plot:

Victor Barboza is a man who has everything but a good woman.
Cara Green has a young son, three part-time jobs, and a few extra pounds.
Their worlds collide as Cara serves Victor at an upscale party in Manhattan, upsetting Victor's ex-fiancée, Alexis in the process.
Victor pursues Cara, but Cara is not sure of his intentions: Is he using her to make Alexis jealous? Does he just want her for sex? Or is love Victor's true aim?

I thought this book was good for a free eBook. I liked all the characters except for Alexis. She was evil and mean to Cara because she wants Victor back.
Cara is a single mother and doesn't have much money, so she lives with her mother. Cara had a one night stand with a man in college and left him, and gave birth to her son, Isaac. Three years later, Cara has 3 jobs and helps cater at a party for rich people. There she meets Victor. Her son is in the hospital and Cara breaks the rules by taking out her phone to make sure her boy is okay. Alexis saw and tries to get Cara fired. Cara explains why she took out her phone and Victor has sympathy for her. He goes to the hospital and meets her son and mother, Patty. He goes to Patty's house and she tells him about her daughter, which is creepy. Victor becomes a stalker and tries to be where Cara is. He finds out she lost her job and he offers her a job where he works. He becomes the boss of her. At first Cara really doesn't want to be around him. She ends up liking him and he feels the same way, so they date. Meanwhile, Alexis tries to break them up and hires private investigators to find info about Cara. Her plan doesn't work and there is a happily ever after.

I really did like this book. The romance was sweet, but was rushed. I loved Cara's little boy. Victor was a nice guy. Patty was kind of a creepy mother for telling strangers about her daughter but she had a good heart. It's funny how Patty ends up marrying one of the private investigators. This book captured my attention and I enjoyed reading it. I give this book 4 stars! That's my review and I will update more soon!
